The 6th Infantry Regiment was newly formed when the Tokyo Garrison's Third Detachment, stationed in Nagoya, was elevated to the Nagoya Garrison in 1873.
This unit was deployed to the China Theater during World War II, participating in the Battle of Xuzhou, the Jiangbei Annihilation Operation, and the Operation Ichi-Go.
