This helmet is called a Chochin Kabuto. The helmet is bellows-shaped, and was given this name because it resembles a Chochin lantern. Although its simple construction leaves something to be desired in terms of defense, it is easy to mass-produce, convenient to carry, and lightweight, so it was often lent to foot soldiers such as Ashigaru.
